Edwin Cooper is a distinguished professor at Laboratory of Comparative Neuroimmunology, Department of Neurobiology David Geffen School Of Medicine at UCLA, USA. He received his PhD (Biology) from Brown University in 1963 and was a post-doctoral fellow at UCLA School of Medicine, in Infectious Diseases (now Microbiology, Immunology, Medical Genetics). He became assistant professor (1964) and Vice Chairman (1989–1993) of Anatomy (now Department of Neurobiology) and full professor 1973. He has taught immunobiology to the first dental class (1964) as chair of the first histology course medical students since 1971. Prof Cooper has lectured extensively in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and held visiting research appointment in immunology departments through prestigious awards. He is the author/editor of more than 25 books and several hundred other publications dealing with comparative immunology, invertebrate immune systems and evolution of neuroimmune systems. His current research interests include antimicrobial peptides and CAM mechanisms with applications to biomedicine. Prof Cooper is now Founding Editor in Chief of the new journal: Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, (eCAM) published by Oxford University Press (2004). He is a charter member of the new International Society of Complementary and Medical Research (ISCMR); has served as Program Officer and President of the American Society of Zoologists (now Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology). He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American, British and French Societies of Immunology. He has been awarded Docteur Honoris Causa from five American and European universities and appointed as Senior Visiting Scientist, Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Bologna, Italy, 2006. In 2006 he was elected to the Erfurt Academy of Erfurt Germany. Edwin Cooper served as a member on ISZS Executive Committee (2004–2012).
